The Hormone Regulator

Fenugreek

Our Fenugreek extract utilises the power of the seed powder which is rich in the bioactive saponin glycosides. Saponin glycosides have a characteristic steroidal saponin group which induces positive feedback system on hormone levels which plays a big influence on libido, energy and exercise endurance. Fenugreek is also particularly beneficial for managing symptoms such as hot flushes, low mood, night sweats and poor sleep. Our Fenugreek extract contains these bioactive compounds at a high strength of 60%.

What Fenugreek can do for you?

Fenugreek helps balance blood sugar and can gently support digestion and hormone levels.

  • Reduces hot flushes
  • Reduces sweats
  • Improves low moos
  • Supports restful sleep
  • Boosts testosterone

The Science

Fenugreek is a traditional herb with a long history of use in both Ayurvedic and Middle Eastern medicine. It is rich in soluble fibre, saponins, and the unique amino acid 4-hydroxyisoleucine, which plays a key role in blood sugar regulation. Clinical research supports its ability to enhance insulin sensitivity, stabilise glucose levels, and support appetite control. Fenugreek has also been shown to influence hormonal balance, particularly in women, and may support testosterone production. Its combination of metabolic and hormonal benefits makes it a versatile plant for managing energy, weight, and female wellbeing.

The Studies

"At The Naked Pharmacy, we ensure that all of our supplements are made with effective strength bioactives, so they are clinically proven to work.

We aim for each supplement to be scientifically supported by multiple randomised placebo-controlled studies. All clinical trial studies we use to support our supplements are undertaken on human patients, using the same dosage and formulation of the product. The scientific studies are published in peer review journals."

The scientific studies to support our claims are published in the following peer review journals:

Study: Influence of a Specialised Trigonella foenum-graecum Seed Extract (Libifem), on Testosterone, Estradiol and Sexual Function in Healthy Menstruating Women, a Randomised Placebo Controlled Study - PubMed (nih.gov)

What the study looked at:

Researchers wanted to see if fenugreek seed extract (from the plant Trigonella foenum-graecum) could help boost sexual desire and arousal in women with low libido.

How the study worked:

80 healthy women, aged 20 to 49, who had a low sex drive were recruited.

They took either:

  • 600 mg/day of a standardised fenugreek extract (Libifem®), or
  • A placebo
  • The trial lasted two menstrual cycles (~8 weeks).

Researchers measured hormone levels (like testosterone and oestrogen) and used standard questionnaires to assess sexual function, stress, fatigue, and relationship satisfaction.

What they found:

Women who took fenugreek extract had a significant increase in:

  • Free testosterone
  • Oestradiol (a form of oestrogen)
  • Sexual desire and arousal
  • No major changes were seen in the placebo group.

What it means:

This study suggests that fenugreek extract may help improve sexual arousal and desire in women with low libido, possibly by naturally boosting hormone levels.

Study: Efficacy of a Proprietary Trigonella foenum-graecum L. De-Husked Seed Extract in Reducing Menopausal Symptoms in Otherwise Healthy Women: A Double-Blind, Randomised, Placebo-Controlled Study - PubMed (nih.gov)

What the study looked at:

Researchers wanted to see if fenugreek seed extract (from Trigonella foenum-graecum) could help relieve menopause symptoms like hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, and low energy.

How the study worked:

  • 115 women, aged 40 to 65, took part in the 12-week study.
  • Half took 600 mg/day of a standardised fenugreek extract, and the other half took a placebo.

Symptoms were measured using a detailed menopause-specific questionnaire (MENQOL) and hormone testing (estradiol).

Researchers tracked hot flushes, night sweats, and quality of life.

What they found:

Women who took fenugreek reported significant relief from menopause symptoms, including:

  • Fewer hot flushes and night sweats
  • Improved mood, physical comfort, and sexual well-being
  • Better overall quality of life

Interestingly, estradiol levels (a key hormone) didn’t change significantly, suggesting that the benefits were likely due to hormone-balancing effects, not direct hormone replacement.

What it means:

Fenugreek seed extract may be a natural and effective way to ease menopause symptoms without affecting hormone levels too much, making it a promising support for women going through this stage of life.

Glossary of terms:

There are a few key terms to be aware of when reviewing these studies:

Randomised Clinical Trial

A clinical trial in which the participants are assigned randomly (by chance alone) to different treatments.

Double-blind study

A study in which neither the participants nor the experimenters know who is receiving a particular treatment. This procedure is utilised to prevent bias in research results.

Double-blind studies are particularly useful for preventing bias due to demand characteristics or the placebo effect.

P-value

The probability of obtaining the observed results of a test. The lower the p-value is, the more confident we can be of a true result. For example, a p- value of 0.001 confirms a result as 99.9% accurate.

Placebo

An inactive treatment used in a clinical trial, sometimes referred to as a “sugar pill”.

A placebo-controlled trial compares a new treatment with a placebo, in order to give greater confidence that the result is only due to the test/active ingredient.
